The Top 3 TV Villains We Love to Hate
Written By: Max Powers
Movie villains, like the Joker and Darth Vader, get a lot of love but let's not forget the many great TV villains. It's hard to narrow them all down to only three top choices but these are the ones in recent years that stick with critics and audiences alike.
Keep in mind that this is only for villains on the small screen. We do have a list of top three movie villains for you to check out too.
It should come as fair warning that there will be spoilers below. With that said, here are the three villains that are so bad, they're good.
1. Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, Daredevil
Netflix may be an online streaming service but it still counts as TV. As a matter of fact, 6 out of 10 adults in the US use online streaming services to watch TV shows.
Of the different Netflix-MCU shows, Daredevil is the one that rises above the rest. While both Jessica Jones and The Punisher also gained critical praise, Daredevil went one step beyond. A portion of that success is in thanks to Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin.
His version of the character is ruthless and violent, but at the same time, audiences feel sympathetic for the misunderstood crime lord.
2. Gus Fring, Breaking Bad
Gustavo Fring will go down as one of the coolest TV villains in history. Not only was he smart and suave, but he also went out with a bang. The image of his death makes for a very good and popular t-shirt design too.
Breaking Bad broke numerous records and set new standards for television shows. The series finale, back in 2013, had 10.3 million viewers. This makes it the third most-watched finale, behind only The Sopranos and Sex & the City.
This makes Gus Fring one of the most well-known TV villains too. Even people who didn't see the show recognize who he is and how he died.
3. The Night King, Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones has too many great villains to only pick one. You have despicable people like Joffrey Baratheon, Cersei Lannister, and Ramsay Bolton. While they could all take a spot on this list, the Night King embodies the real war on the horizon.
Ever since the first episode, the audience got fleeting glimpses of the horror that the White Walkers bring wherever they go. The Night King first appeared in Season 4 and has since been shown gathering his undead army to siege the lands of the living.
Audiences didn't feel his immense power until much later on in the show. His prowess was seen firsthand during the Battle of Hardhome and later when he killed one of Daenerys' dragons. He later revived it to destroy the Wall that kept the White Walkers at bay for thousands of years.
Honorable (Or Dishonorable) Mentions
There are so many other great TV villains out there. It would be a crime to not mention the likes of Negan from The Walking Dead, the Daleks from the Doctor Who franchise, and the Man in Black from Westworld.
Did we include one of your favorite TV villains of all time? The great thing about television is how varied it is and how many shows you can watch.
